About LORE
LORE is a production studio rooted in an interest in folklore and the practice of documentary. Working across moving image, audio, writing and events, we develop projects with people and organisations, seeking a form that fits each subject.
Context, culture and the work between.
What people tell each other, believe in, gather around and live by: our interests reach beyond inherited traditions to emerging habits, music communities, work and play.
For LORE, folklore is not only about preserving the past. It means listening to the meanings people already hold and sharing their words with the contexts that shaped them, making work that can lead to further conversations and expression.
Let research shape the form
- Listen & engage
- Listening and engaging with the setting, rather than relying on documents alone. What is said matters alongside the context around it.
- Select & compose
- Choosing what remains in a work and in what order it is encountered. Editing involves judgement; its perspective and responsibility should remain clear.
- Share & continue
- Considering how a work can lead to conversation and further projects, not just publication. The work and the setting in which people encounter it belong together.
Projects, programmes and services
Cultural Intoxication is a cultural series, with カセットテープの民族誌 as one of its projects. wakeru is a separate documentary film. Both ongoing programmes and works devoted to a single subject have a place in our practice.
NECRITIC is our podcast production service brand: a dedicated starting point for people developing audio programmes, connected to LORE’s wider work.
