Co-production & development
We develop projects with makers, researchers, organisations and local participants. Bringing together perspectives and relationships, we consider what to make, who it is for and how to share it.
Before the proposal is finished.
You may have someone you want to film, a place you have been following, or research you want to share beyond a paper. A film or podcast need not be the starting assumption: we can begin with the subject.
If the outlet and deadline are already set, a commissioned production may be the better arrangement. We discuss the working relationship explicitly, rather than letting “co-production” leave responsibilities unclear.
What we work through
- Subject & perspective
- Why this subject, why now, whose perspective and what research is needed.
- Format & audience
- Film, YouTube, podcasts, writing, screenings or conversations: the format and how it reaches an audience are considered together.
- Production plan
- The stages, responsibilities, budget, schedule and scope of a proposal or pilot.
- Rights & agreements
- Copyright, credits, use of materials, publication decisions and costs are discussed before production begins.
From a conversation to an agreement
Share the starting point
We discuss the subject, its background, existing material and the role you have in mind for LORE. A finished proposal is not required.
Define the conditions
We consider access, outlets, scale and rights, then identify what the development stage needs to resolve.
Agree on the next stage
We agree on the terms and scope of the next stage, such as paid development, a pilot or production. An initial enquiry does not commit either party to a production.
About working together
Can I start with just an idea?
Yes. A subject and why you want to pursue it are enough to start a conversation. Include any existing access or reference material if available.
Does co-production mean no fee?
This is not an offer of free production or financing from LORE. Development fees, production costs, funding arrangements and the allocation of costs are discussed individually.
Can I send confidential material?
Start with a non-confidential outline. Agree on handling requirements before sharing confidential proposals or material you do not have permission to share.
